Coats of arms of US Infantry Regiments are heraldic emblems associated with infantry regiments in the US Army. By Army regulation, all regiments of the US Army organized under a Table of Organization and Equipment are authorized a coat of arms to be displayed on the organization's standard, called the "colors." This coat of arms also forms the basis for the unit's "distinctive unit insignia", the emblem worn by all members of the unit on their service uniforms.
The coats of arms for infantry units normally incorporate the color blue, which has been the traditional color of the infantry in the U.S. Army since 1851. Below are galleries of the coats of arms of US Army Infantry regiments. The official mottoes (as awarded by The Institute of Heraldry of the U.S. Army) and/or special designations (as awarded by the United States Army Center of Military History) of the units are also noted.
Active duty units that have served in war are authorized a crest. National Guard units are authorized the crest for their respective state, while Reserve units are all authorized a crest depicting a minuteman.
No coat of arms are shown for either the US 37th Infantry Regiment or the US 40th Infantry Regiment-these formations only existed two times-after serving in the War of 1812 the first 37th became part of the US 6th Infantry and the first 40th became part of the US 5th Infantry. The second formation of these two regiments only existed from 1866 to 1869-when the second 37th was divided between the US 3rd and US 5th Infantry Regiments and the second 40th became part of the US 25th Infantry Regiment. The 69th and 71st New York were able to lobby for retention of their 19th century numbers, because of this 69th and 71st are doubled. but the federal units were only activated briefly.
